Medical examiners in Kanpur have concluded the post-mortem of gangster Vikas Dubey who fell to the bullets of Special Task Force (STF) on July 10.
Vikas Dubey’s brother-in-law Dinesh Tiwari reached the post-mortem house to collect the body on Friday evening. The body was taken straight to Bhairav Ghat for cremation.
According to inputs, the entire post-mortem was videographed. It was conducted by a team of three doctors. Vikas Dubey’s samples have also returned negative for the novel coronavirus.
A dreaded gangster with over 60 criminal cases against him, Vikas Dubey was on the run since the night of July 2 when he staged an ambush at his home in Kanpur’s Bikru village where eight policemen were killed and another seven injured. Dubey managed to flee the spot after his men opened indiscriminate fire at the police team.
Over 40 teams of the Uttar Pradesh Police and STF were formed to nab the gangster who after sailing through three state borders and seven districts, landed in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain. He was spotted and apprehended at the Mahakaleshwar temple and handed over to Ujjain Police. A team of the STF then took custody of Vikas Dubey and left for Kanpur via road.
In the early hours of Friday, the car in which Vikas Dubey was being moved overturned allegedly after a cattle herd waylaid the vehicle and the driver lost control. The STF claims Dubey took advantage of the accident, snatched a policeman’s service weapon and attempted to flee. When backup caught up with him, Vikas Dubey opened fire at them using the service weapon he had lifted.
This is when STF DSP Tej Pratap Singh retaliated in self-defence and fired at Dubey, the STF’s press note adds. Police claim that the gangster was rushed to a government hospital where he succumbed to bullet wounds.
