Seven people killed in storm at temple premises in Akola Maharashtra

Seven people were killed and 30 injured when a tree fell on a tin shed in Maharashtra’s Akola on Sunday. The accident took place in Paras village of Akola. Around 40 people had gone here to attend a religious program at Babuji Maharaj Sansthan.

It started raining heavily here at around 7 pm and strong wind started blowing. Because of this, a neem tree was uprooted and fell on the tin shed under which all the devotees had gathered. Of these, 4 died on the spot, while 36 were admitted to the hospital. 3 of the injured succumbed during treatment

As soon as the incident was reported, the police and the rescue-relief team reached the spot and with the help of the local people, the rescue work started, which continued till 3 am. People removed the tree by cutting it with a saw and took the help of JCB to clear the debris. People gathered under the tree to avoid rain

According to the police, Paras is a village in Balapur taluka of Akola district. Due to it being a Sunday in the temple of Babuji Maharaj Sansthan here, a huge crowd of people had gathered for the aarti and darshan in the evening. Aarti started at around 7.30 pm in the Sansthan area.

There is a big tin shed outside this temple. Unseasonal rains lashed the district, due to which passers-by and devotees stood under tin sheds to avoid the rain. During the accident, 40 to 50 people were present under the tin shed.

Devendra Fadnavis said – will give financial assistance to the families of the dead

After the incident, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condoled the death of those killed in the accident. Fadnavis wrote on Twitter, ‘It is very sad to inform that a religious ceremony was going on in a temple at Paras in Akola district. Then, due to the fall of a tree, the tin shed fell on some devotees and some of the devotees died.

Fadnavis said that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has decided to provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased from the state government and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
