Villagers kept troubling the sick leopard for hours in Dewas

A video has surfaced of villagers harassing a leopard in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh. In the video, people are seen playing with the leopard by treating it like a pet. Some people are pushing him forward while some are trying to take selfie with him. In the video, the leopard is seen in a sick condition.

The case is of Sonkutch in Dewas. Where the villagers saw a leopard in the bushes near Iklera Mataji village of Peepalrawan police station area at around 4 pm on Tuesday evening. At first they were scared, but when the leopard did not do anything for a long time, some people dared to approach him. Even after being teased, the leopard did not retaliate, so the villagers became fearless. Some of them started rubbing their hands on his body. Some started trying to lift him.

When the word spread in the village, the crowd started increasing on the spot. Seeing which the leopard got up and started going to one side. People did not agree and started walking with the leopard. They kept pushing him. Many villagers captured this scene in their mobile cameras. Which later went viral.

Many villagers made videos of leopard in their mobiles. Some even took selfies with him.

Team taken to Bhopal’s Van Vihar for treatment.

A villager informed the matter to the forest department. After which the team of the department reached Iklera and kept the people away from the leopard. The forest staff informed the Ujjain divisional team after taking the leopard to a safe place. Ujjain divisional team reached there around 8 pm and captured the leopard.

Deputy Divisional Officer (SDO) Santosh Shukla said that the team has taken the leopard to Van Vihar in Bhopal for treatment. His age is about 2 years.

SDO Shukla said, ‘The condition of the leopard was critical. Despite this people were troubling him. We removed the villagers from there. After this a veterinary doctor was called from Mhow. The doctor told that the leopard had eaten its fill. He had become lethargic as he had trouble digesting it. He also tried vomiting, but could not.

Forest guard Jitendra Chauhan told that according to the villagers, the leopard was wandering here and there in a dizzy spell. He could not even walk properly.

Wild animals are often seen in the area adjacent to the city.

Local villager Sachin Sendhav told that wild animals are often seen around 30 km from Sonkach. Leopard keeps coming and going in Chaubara Jagir area of the area. Leopard movement was seen 15 days ago in Jaleria forest. In places like Bhatkund forest, Bawai area many times wild animals have come face to face with the villagers.
