UNLF Militants Kill 5 Assam Rifles Troops in Manipur Ambush

United National Liberation Front (UNLF) militants killed five Assam Rifles men, including two officers, in an ambush in the Old Somtal area in Chandel district of Manipur on Monday, security officials said.

“Militants fired on the vehicle from hilltops and killed all five of them on the spot. When our reinforcement reached the spot they found the bodies lying there,” a senior military commander speaking on condition of anonymity told Reuters.

The UNLF, which observes its 45th foundation day on Tuesday, later claimed responsibility of the attack.
