Cheetah tracked and tranquilized which escaped from MP to Rajasthan ; team of 20 specialists involved
Agni, the cheetah that escaped from Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, was found in Rajasthan. He kept roaming in the forest bordering Madhya Pradesh throughout the day on Monday. Crossed the border in the evening and reached Kailbada area of Baran district adjoining Rajasthan. Here the Forest Department team tranquilized him. The leopard was kept in a cage and brought to Kuno at around 8.30 pm. After medical checkup here, he was released in the reserve zone of Kuno.
Kuno National Park DFO Thirukural R has confirmed this. He told that Agni was missing for three days. He had come out of the forest of Karahal and Avada areas and reached Kalbada. After reaching Rajasthan, Forest Department and Cheetah Task Force staff tranquilized him and locked him in a cage.
After the location of Cheetah Agni was traced on Monday, a team of 20 specialists from Kuno reached Baran. This team tranquilized the leopard. It is being told that the cheetah had reached 15 kilometers inside the border of Rajasthan.
The team of Kuno National Park was tracing the fire in the areas adjacent to the MP-Rajasthan border since Sunday.
Kuno National Park officials had released the cheetah Agni along with his brother Vayu from a large enclosure into the open forest on December 17. The very next day, he got separated from Vayu and reached the forest amidst Karahal-Avda. His location was in this area for four days. One day he reached the forest near Pohari.
Forest department officials were constantly monitoring him. Cheetah was continuously moving towards Rajasthan. Regarding this, Dainik Bhaskar’s team had first expressed apprehension that he might enter the Rajasthan border. If this happens, he will be tranquilized.
Agni was released along with his brother Vayu Cheetah in the Kuno forest on 17 December.
Agni and Vayu are real brothers. They lived together from the beginning. The forest department team used to keep them together in the enclosure. Both used to hunt together. Whenever there was a conflict with another animal or a leopard, both of them would attack it together. Last time also both of them had a fight with other cheetahs. He was injured in that.
