India said- report of sending weapons to Ukraine is wrong: Foreign Ministry said- India’s record is spotless, no rules were violated

The Indian government has strongly objected to a Reuters report on the shipment of ammunition from India to Ukraine. The Indian Foreign Ministry has called it false and mischievous.

Responding to questions on the report on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen the Reuters report. It is speculative and misleading. It talks about violation of rules, whereas there is nothing like that.”

The Foreign Ministry said that India follows international law regarding export of military equipment and India’s track record in this is impeccable.

Claim in the report – Ukraine is using Indian ammunition against Russia Earlier, a Reuters report claimed that Ukraine is using Indian ammunition in the war against Russia. It said that India had sold these weapons to European countries, but now Ukraine is using them.

The report also claimed that despite Russia’s protest, India did not try to stop it. It quoted 3 Indian officials and said that Russia complained about this to India on 2 occasions.

The report said that India’s ammunition is reaching Ukraine via Italy and the Czech Republic. Both these countries buy shells from India in large quantities. In the last one year, these two countries have sent India’s ammunition to Ukraine.

Russia complained to India The report also said that a meeting was held between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar in July. This issue was raised in it.

According to the report, two Indian government sources and two Defence Ministry sources had told Reuters that India has produced very small quantities of the ammunition being used by Ukraine.

One official estimated that this was not even 1% of the amount of ammunition Kiev might have purchased since the war began.

The government company Yantra India made the ammunition. It was told in the report that these weapons were made by a government company named Yantra India. The headquarters of this company is in Nagpur. This company was formed in October 2021.

India has set rules regarding the export of weapons. According to these, only the country which is buying weapons from India can use them. If the weapons are sent to another country, the company can stop the delivery of weapons.
