Cong Attack on Bachchan Not at Behest of Gandhis: Amar
Expelled SP leader Amar Singh has said that attacks by Congress on Hindi film actor Amitabh Bachchan has not been at the behest of party chief Sonia Gandhi or her son Rahul Gandhi, reported IANS.
“Personally, I have full faith that this whole act (the Congress’ statements) could not have been done at the level of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,” Amar Singh, a close friend of Bachchan, said in the latest post on his blog.
Singh said that a number of times he had interacted with top Congress leadership on political issues but not found vindictiveness in them, report said.
Needless to mention, Congress asked Bachchan to make it clear if he, as a brand ambassador for Gujarat, endorsed 2002 riots even as chief minister Narendra Modi himself was being quizzed in the matter by SIT.
In the blog, Singh said referring to Gandhi family: “The family, whose daughter is sensitive to the killer of her father, the family which has piety even for those who had committed this detestable act, their heart cannot be so harsh to the family of Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan, leave Amitabh.”
He went on to say that Padma Shri award given to Bachchan’s daughter-in-law and the best actor award given to Amitabh during the UPA government’s rule proved this, said report.
He said that some of his associates feel the ‘unnecessary propaganda’ has been started by a person ‘who wanted me to make anti-Congress remarks in my love for Bachchan’, said report.
Singh, who openly flayed Jaya Bachchan for continuing to be in SP, defended Amitabh over his acceptance of Modi’s offer to become brand ambassador of Gujarat.
Singh said: “Leave Modi to the Supreme Court and the Bachchan family to its art and culture.”
