Sangma Takes Oath as Meghalaya CM
On his 45th birthday, Mukul Sangma has taken oath as the 22nd chief minister of Meghalaya, a day after DD Lapang resigned following a month-long rebellion by the 28 Congress MLAs, reported PTI.
In addition to Sangma, Governor RS Mooshahary administered oath of office to B M Lanong, an MLA of the United Democratic Party (UDP), a key ally of the Congress, as deputy chief minister, report said.
While JA Lyngdoh (UDP) and independent A T Mondol were also sworn in by Mooshahary, said report.
In 38 years of history, Sangma’s would be the 22nd government in the state, which is also 11th in the last 10 years.
The month-long rebellion by Congress MLAs peaked on April 17 when Sangma and dissident Congress legislators rushed to New Delhi with the claim that Lapang had lost majority.
