Shukla Meets Deshmukh, Pleads Mega Status to Joint Venture of BHEL and MP Genco
Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Resources Rajendra Shukla has demanded mega power status to joint venture of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company (MP Genco).
Shukla met Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh and Minister of State Arun Yadav in New Delhi today and held discussions over various issues.
He urged the ministers to accord mega power status to the joint venture company Dada Dhuniwale Khandwa Power Limited (2×800 megawatt thermal power station) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company (MP Genco).
The minister said that as per the amended power policy, BHEL assured to accord mega power status to this joint venture and a meeting was also held in Delhi over this issue on April 5, 2010.
Shukla urged the Minister for Heavy Industries to take up the matter with Ministry for Power and take the approval of the Union Cabinet if necessary.
He said that the cost of the joint venture would come down by Rs 660 to 700 crore after being accorded mega power project status following which consumers can be supplied power at reduced rates.
He asked him to instruct the BHEL management to accelerate the progress of Singaji and Satpura thermal power projects.
The order for main power block of 1200 MW Singaji project was given to BHEL in December 2008. BHEL had agreed to start both the units by March 2012.
At present, many works of these units have been delayed by 7 to 8 months. If the conditions remained the same, the project’s implementation will be delayed.
