MP Govt Asked to Approach PC for Construction of Gas Tragedy Memorial
Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Srikant Kumar Jena has said that the Madhya Pradesh government has been advised to approach Planning Commission on its proposal for construction of an International Bhopal Gas Tragedy memorial,
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Jena said that a proposal of construction of the memorial involving expenditure of Rs 70 crore was received in December 2005 from the state government which was then advised to approach the Planning Commission direction for the funds.
He said that the Planning Commission approved one time Additional Central Assistance of Rs 10.00 crore for the purpose to state government during 2006-07.
In November 2009, the state government has again sent a proposal for construction of Bhopal memorial with an estimated expenditure of Rs 116.18 crore, he said.
Again, state government has been urged to take up the matter directly with Planning Commission for required funds, he added.
