Woman Murdered for Marrying against Family Wishes
A woman, along with her mother-in-law, has been killed in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district by her family member for marrying against their wishes, said media reports citing police.
Gurleen Kaur was attacked with swords at her home in Bahmaniwala village, about 25 km from Amritsar, and she bled to death, reports said.
Besides, her family ran after Aman, her terrorized husband, through the streets and opened fire at him, injuring him seriously, said reports.
Police said that both Gurleen and Aman had married last month against the wishes of the woman’s family, reports said.
The couple had the protection of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh when they tied the knot.
Aman has been admitted to a hospital in Amritsar, while the culprits escaped, said reports.
A case of murder has been registered against eight relatives of Gurleen, reports said.
