PM Should Clarify Govt’s Strategy on Naxals: Jaitley
Reacting to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement that a limited mandate on Naxals will no longer work, the BJP has said that the minister looked like an injured martyr, said media reports.
Chidambaram had made the remarks in an interview to a private news channel while commenting on the menace of naxalism.
“Our party is more concerned after Chidambaram’s interview to NDTV. Chidambaram looked like an injured martyr,” BJP leader Arun Jaitley was quoted as saying in a press conference in New Delhi.
Also, Jaitley said that minister’s ‘limited mandate’ comment is a telling commentary on the state of affairs, said reports.
“In battle against Maoists, the security apparatus should act with full strength. If government thinks air surveillance is required, we will respect their decision,” Jaitley was quoted as saying.
The BJP leader demanded that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must give a clarification on his government’s anti-Naxal strategy, reports said.
“The Prime Minister should end the debate on Maoists, and clear his if government will go all out against Naxals or it will be a half battle,” Jaitley was quoted as saying.
He snubbed government’s tackling of the Naxal situation and said, “It seems the UPA is in power but not in control.”
