Blast on Railway Track in Tamil Nadu, Big Mishap Averted
A major mishap was averted today morning when driver of Chennai-bound Rockfort Express stopped the train immediately after he received a warning about a blast on the track near Perani station, 160 km from Chennai, said media reports.
Vellupuram police officials said that three feet of tracks were damaged in the blast which caused a four feet crater, reports said.
They said that the driver stopped the train 20 feet before the damaged spot and that railway officials at Trichy and Chennai were informed immediately, said reports.
Immediately Railway Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Pon Manickavel and other officials rushed to the spot, reports said.
Officials said that repair works was on and the traffic was expected to be restored till 9 am, said reports.
Due to blast, trains coming from southern districts to Chennai were delayed, reports said.
Rockfort Express, Pearl City Express, Kanyakumari Express, Mumbai-Madurai Express and others were stopped midway. Trains departing from here to Guruvayoor, Puducherry and other places were also delayed.
