India’s annual food inflation dropped by nearly four percent
NEW DELHI: According to official data released on Thursday India’s annual food inflation dropped by nearly four percentage points to 13.07 percent for the week ended Jan 29, the lowest level in nearly one-and-a-half months. It declined the prices of pulses, potatoes and wheat said data.
After two consecutive weeks of sharp rise food inflation has declined. Food inflation was 17.05 percent for the week ended Jan 22 and 15.57 percent during the previous week.
Pulses became cheaper by 8.63 percent on an annual basis, Price of potatoes declined 8.87 percent and wheat became cheaper by 3.58 percent, according to the commerce and industry ministry data.
The annual inflation for primary articles declined to 16.24 percent as against 18.44 percent in the previous week.
However, prices of onion and some vegetables continue to remain high. Onions remained 78.64 percent costlier. Prices of fruits rose 10.46 percent and milk 11.66 percent year-on-year.
