Old building killed five in country capital
NEW DELHI: On Wednesday a three-storied building collapsed killing five and injuring 22 people in the Walled City in the capital, it was more than 60 years old, said the local people.
The Katra Data Ram ki Haveli was located in Chandni Mahal area near the Jama Masjid.
“Katra refers to a wing of tradesmen and craftsmen belonging to the same trade usually living and working together. The Haveli (building) was more than 60-years-old,” said Sharfaqt, a 55-year-old local.
Data Ram Panna Lal was the original owner of the building who used to run a warehouse in the 1,000 square yard plot.
He sold the Haveli to Kanhaiya around one-and-a-half decade ago. The third owner of the building was Rajender Sharma who divided it into two portions several years ago.
Jalal and Amin,the current owners of 80 yards of the building which had been collapsed now, were carrying out construction work since the last 20 days.
