CM greeted citizens on Makar Sankranti
BHOPAL: On the occasion of Makar Sankranti Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan has greeted people and extended his best wishes to them.
Chouhan said that the festival of Makar Sankranti comes with the message of social harmony as per Indian traditions. The festival which marks change in the direction of sun and season also sweetens lives of people and gives the message of strengthening the tradition of brotherhood.
Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival celebrated in various parts of India. According to the lunar calendar, when the sun moves from the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn or from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana, in the month of Poush in mid-January, it commemorates the beginning of the harvest season and cessation of the northeast monsoon in South India.
Makar Sankranti is observed with great enthusiasm all over India. However, it is celebrated with different names and rituals in different parts of the country.
In the states of northern and western India, the festival is celebrated as the Sankranti day. The importance of this day has been signified in the ancient epics like Mahabharata also.
Kites fill the sky on this day, as everyone want to fully enjoy this festival of Sankrant.
