Japan Without nuclear power after Forty years
TOKYO: As a part of the safety drive Japan is switching off its last working nuclear reactor situated at the Tomari plant, in Hokkaido prefecture.
It has earlier shut down other nuclear plants in the wake of Tsunami accident in March 2011. It leaves Japan without nuclear power for the first time since 1970 i.e. more than 40 years.
It is likely to create power shortage in Japan this summer. After the Tsunami attack in March 2011 all the country’s reactors have been shut down for routine maintenance.
Until last year about 30% of energy required by Japan was obtained from Nuclear energy.
The nuclear power in Japan will start only when they withstand tests against earthquakes and tsunamis, and local authorities give their consent in order for plants to restart.
A spokesman told that the reactor operations will have stopped by 14:00 GMT on Saturday.
Manufacturing sector can effect severely if nuclear plant will not restarted feels businessmen.
While anti nuclear March also took place in capital city in which about 5,500 peoples took part, “There are so many nuclear plants, but not a single one will be up and running today, and that’s because of our efforts,” campaigner Masashi Ishikawa told the crowd.
