Devils beat the Kings
NEW DELHI: Irfan and Jayawerdene guide Delhi daredevils to yet another victory. With this win Delhi virtually seals the top spot of IPL-V.
Chasing a modest target of 137 runs Delhi had a disastrous start losing 4 wickets for just 37 runs in 5.4 overs. Awana picks up three wickets Delhi was tottering at that stage. Ojha along with Jayawerdene took Delhi close to victory.
The final touch to the victory was provided by Ifan and Jayawerdene partnership. Jayawerdene holds the Delhi innings and made 56 runs in 49 balls.
Delhi won the game with 1 over remaining.
Earlier sent in to bat Punjab was able to manage to post a modest total of 136 runs due to some fine display of fast bowling by Varun Aaron and Yadav. Yadav picks 3 wickets and Aaron picks two wickets with a very good economy rate. Only captain Hussey was able to play well and made 40 runs in 35 balls.
Brief Scores: Delhi Daredevils 140 for 5 (Jayawardene 56*, Awana 3-22) beat Kings XI Punjab 136 for 8 (Hussey 40*, Yadav 3-21, Aaron 2-19) by five wickets.
Umesh Yadav is the Man of the Match. Umesh: “Normally, Viru pa gives us the ball and tells us to bowl according to ourselves. It is the short format, you keep going for fours and sixes even off good balls. I was getting some swing.”
Sehwag: “There was little movement for the fast bowlers, Varun and Umesh bowled beautifully, took early wickets and put pressure on Kings XI. We were expecting that Mahela could play till the end and finish the game. It is difficult to go in and play your shots; he took his time.”
Hussey: “We fought the game out really well. Full credit to Irfan and Mahela, Delhi is a very talented team. Awana’s sort of come from nowhere, he’s been the find of the tournament for us as far as bowling is concerned.”
