Minority Scholarship : MP is best

Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh is among the best states with regard to the implementation of Merit-cum-Means Scholarships Scheme meant for students belonging to minority communities. In view of the outstanding performance of the state, the quota of Madhya Pradesh for year 2012-13 has also been increased.

In its letter sent by Union Minorities Affairs Ministry to Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary, the state has been lauded for works done under the scheme during the 11th Five-Year Plan. It has been hoped in the letter that Madhya Pradesh will perform with same excellence during the 12th Five-Year Plan also.

It may be mentioned that this Union Government scheme is being implemented for the last five years and Madhya Pradesh has excelled in its implementation. Madhya Pradesh’s performance was lauded last year also. Initially, the scheme was implemented in 28 states/Union Territories in the year 2007-08. Later in 2010-11, the number of states/Union Territories had increased to 32. Till the year 2012, this scholarship has been provided in these states to one lakh 62 thousand 967 students.

The scheme has been made transparent in Madhya Pradesh with the introduction of online scholarship management system. This has made the procedure for applying for the scholarship easier. Besides, worthwhile improvement has also been registered in the monitoring, processing and finalising merit lists as well as the procedure for sanctioning scholarships to students.
