Pune blasts : initial probe points out to Indian Mujahideen

Pune:  Investigators and intelligence officials are trying to identify the responsible group for a series of blasts in Pune on Wednesday night and sources say the modus operandi seems to suggest an Indian Mujahideen hand. Four bombs exploded within quick succession of each other in the heart of the city on the busy Jangli Maharaj Road. One person was injured.

The top police and ATS officials said, “The blasts might have been engineered by Indian Mujahideen to give a message that the outfit is still active and can pull out an operation in the city although Quateel Siddiqui, an alleged IM operative and a suspect in German Bakery blast, has been murdered.”

Officials said that the blasts were engineered on the day when Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s was supposed to visit Pune, and that his visit was cancelled at the eleventh hour too was too curious to be considered a pure coincidence. The police and ATS officials said using bicycles to plant bombs at crowded public places is a modus operandi that terror groups have been adopting for the last several years. They said earlier cycles were used to plant bombs in Gujarat and at Malegaon.

The police and ATS officials said that the bombs were planted in close vicinities of KFC and McDonalds.

“Terror groups have been trying to target places owned by multi nationals or frequented by foreigners. This has been noticed during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack too. Even German Bakery was frequented by foreigners and was located in close vicinity of Chhabad House. In the present case, both McDonalds and KFC are USA based,” officials said.
