Pench project to be implemented after getting all clearances

Bhopal: Pench diversion project in Chhindwara district has been implemented after obtaining all the sanctions including environmental clearances. A special package has already been sanctioned for proper compensation to the farmers affected by acquisition of private lands in submergence area of the project. Targeted to be completed by June 1015 the Rs. 1788 crore 72 lakh the project would irrigate 52 thousand 655 hectare on completion.
As much as 577 mcm water would be completed in the dam under construction in village Machagaura in Chourai development block in Chhindwara district under the project. Of this, the live water collection capacity would be 407 mcm. Irrigation facility would be available in 108 villages of Chhindwara and Chourai development blocks and 134 villages of Seoni and Chhapara development block. A total of 8,895 hectare would be irrigated from right bank canal and 47 thousand 760 from left bank canal. Thus a total of 52 thousand 655 hectare would come under irrigation.
A provision of 62 mcm water has been made for industries from the dam. This would lead to industrial development and throw open employments for local pe0ple. Under the project 12 percent of crest level work and 45 percent of main canal work has been completed.
A special package has already been sanctioned by the government to ensure proper compensation to the farmers affected by private land acquisition in the submergence area of Pench project’s reservoir. The late of agricultural land has been increased by 204 percent in 30 villages of submergence area in comparison to previous years in the Collector’s guideline-2011-12. The average increase has been 80 percent. The state government has sanctioned a special package of Rs. 301 crore 02 lakh at the rate fixed under Collector’s guideline of 2011-12 for the farmers of the submergence area.
It may be mentioned her that Pench diversion project was sanctioned in `1988 by the Central Water Commission after detailed technical and other examinations . The Environment, Forest and Wildlife Ministry of Government of India accorded environmental clearance to the project in April 1986. Work on the project was started in 1988 after obtaining environmental clearance.
The Technical Advisory Committee of the Union Water Resources Ministry accorded technical and financial sanction again in February 2006. The Central Water Commission granted permission for investment in the project in April 2006. The project is sanctioned under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) of the central government. The latter is providing 25 percent of the project’s cost as grant.
