State to extend optimum cooperation in construction, repair of national highways: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the State Government is committed to improving condition of National Highways passing through Madhya Pradesh. For this, desired cooperation at every level will be extended to the National Highways Authority of India. If delay is caused in construction and repair of National Highways then discussions will be held with the Union Ministry.
Shri Chouhan was addressing a high level meeting of officers of the National Highways Authority of India and Public Works Department here today. The meeting was convened to discuss and resolve various bilateral issues.
National Highways Authority of India was represented at the meeting by its New Delhi-based Chief General Manager Shri R.K. Singh, Regional Manager Shri I.K. Pandey, Project Director Shri S.K. Singh and state’s Public Works Department by PWD Minister Shri Nagendra Singh, Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram, Principal Secretary Public Works Shri K.K. Singh, Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Vivek Agrawal and other senior officers.
At the meeting, detailed discussions were held on improving bad condition of national highways and their construction. Officers of the National Highways Authority of India made it clear that repair work of National Highways will be completed by January-end. Union Ministry’s permission will be required for construction of bridges on some roads. Besides this, cooperation was also sought in environment-related sanctions from the State and Union Governments and distribution of compensation. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan assured to extend cooperation of the State Government at every level.
Shri Chouhan laid special emphasis on quality of construction and repair works. Expressing concern over long delay in construction due to non-fulfilment of agreement, he said that this escalates cost and further delay is caused in obtaining new sanctions. The Chief Minister said that the Authority should take initiative to construct those roads afresh, whose condition does not improve even after repairs.
Shri Chouhan said that bad roads cause difficulties to people. Transport and business is also affected. This is not an issue of state alone, but also a matter of nation’s prestige. Officers of the National Highways Authority of India assured the Chief Minister that the pace of construction and repair of national highways passing through Madhya Pradesh will be accelerated.
At the meeting, discussion was held on improvement of roads between Gwalior and Dewas and Indore and Dewas under National Highway-3. Officers of the Authority informed that 50 percent repair work has been completed and will be completed by January-end. Similarly, assurance was also given to complete repair works of patches of Varanasi to Kanyakumari National Highway No. 7 between Rewa and Jabalpur, Lakhnadaun and Seoni, Rewa-Maihar-Katni and Jabalpur and Lakhnadaun, National Highway 59-A between Indore and Betul, National Highway 59 Between Indore-Dhar-Labed, National Highway 69 between Obaidullahganj and Nagpur, Itarsi and Betul and Bhopal and Itarsi, National Highway No. 75 between Gwalior and Bela, National Highway No. 86 between Sagar and Kanpur and National Highway 86 between Bhopal and Sagar.
