Country’s first cow sanctuary to come up in Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal: Country’s first and unique cow sanctuary will be established in Madhya Pradesh. Kamadhenu Cow Sanctuary is coming up on 472 hectare area at village Salriya in Susner tahsil of Shajapur district. Its foundation stone will be laid on December 24. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed preparations for Kamadhenu Cow Sanctuary at a high-level meeting at Mantralaya here today.
The Chief Minister directed to prepare quality and convenient shelters for cows. Stressing the need for permanent drinking water source for cows in the sanctuary, he also directed to construct a reservoir over there. The Chief Minister said that cows must get green fodder continuously. For this, he directed to earmark a place in the sanctuary to grow fodder. Shri Chouhan said people serving and breeding cows and directors of Gaushalas will be awarded. The Chief Minister also directed to take initiative for seeking active cooperation of servants and breeders of cows. He said that conservation of cows is a means to strengthen local economy apart from being a symbol of cultural awareness.
It was informed at the meeting that outstanding Gaushalas of the state will be awarded. Amount for fodder given to Gaushalas will be increased from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 per cattle head. A veterinary dispensary will also be set up in the cow sanctuary. One hundred acre land will be reserved for growing fodder. The sanctuary will be developed in 472 hectare area and will be fenced. In the first phase, 500 shades will be built for bovine animals. Limit of protected area will be drawn for the cow sanctuary.
Necessary infrastructure for cow sanctuary will be constructed in the first phase. Production of organic manure will be started. In the second phase, medicines based on cow urine will be started besides progeny improvement programme. In the third phase, work for conserving bovine animals of indigenous species will begin.
