Census data should be used in state’s all-round development

Bhopal: Census of Madhya Pradesh along with India was held in two phases. Data of census-2011 was analysed and published in the form of books. Data of the second phase of the census called enumeration of population has also been prepared in CD form by Madhya Pradesh Census Directorate. A two-day workshop began at Bhopal today to discuss all these points. Members of civil society, NGOs and officers of various departments are participating in the workshop. The main topic of discussion was optimum use of census data for development of Madhya Pradesh by analysing it comparatively.
In the inaugural session, Secretary Rural Development Shri Rajesh Rajora said that the census data collected after a gap of ten years needs to be effectively used for the next ten years. A general analysis of population figures should also be undertaken during review of schemes’ progress. Population-related facts and figures are very necessary for knowing reality of a number of State and Union government schemes like housing, drinking water, electrification, health and education. Former IAS officer and advisor to World Health Programme Shri Waseem Akhtar said that population data needs to be provided at the district-level also. Each district has its own social and geographical specialities. He stressed the need to hold such workshops at the district-level also.
Director Sachin Sinha informed that the work of enlisting houses was done under the census from May 7 to June 22 with an assistance of about one lakh 20 thousand enumerators. About 19 thousand supervisors were also appointed. He informed that the number of houses in Madhya Pradesh was 140 lakh in 2001, which has increased to 185 lakh in 2011. Their percentage was 18.6, which came down to 14.7. At the workshop data related to social condition of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes was also discussed. UNICEF representative Shri Kumar Premchand and representative of Action of Social Advance Shri Ashish Mandal also addressed the workshop.
Population figures have also been uploaded on www.censusindia.gov.in and www.devinfo.org//indiacensuse2011. Subject experts will give information on application of computer in data analysis on the second day of the workshop.
