Young women shot dead by drunk man in Delhi

New Delhi: A 25-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by a “drunk” man in a busy area in south Delhi on Sunday night when she objected to his misbehaviour.

A senior police officer said the assailant, who was identified as Munshi Yadav from Bihar, has been arrested. Police said the victim and the assailant knew each other and the incident appeared to be a case of personal enmity.

One eyewitness identified as Rakesh Kumar said he heard the woman and the assailant had arguments over some issue. Kumar said the attacker who was caught after being chased while trying to escape had a countrymade pistol. “We found some bullets from his pocket,” he added.

Seven bullets were also recovered from the accused who hails from Saharsa in Bihar, ACP South east Delhi, Ajay Chowdhary said.

The victim and the accused knew each other from the last one to one and half years, Chowdhary said, adding, the families of the victim and the accused also know each other.

The ACP claimed that the accused was caught red-handed by traffic police. This matter is not related to eve-teasing, he said.
