Special SVEEP activities to be held at polling booths registering less voting
Bhopal: Like Vidhan Sabha elections, activities under systematic voters’ education and electoral participation (SVEEP) plan will be held in 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh to increase poll percentage during elections in April. A video-conference was held at the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer here today with districts to launch large-scale SVEEP activities.
Directives were given to undertake intensive SVEEP activities by identifying the constituencies which registered less voting percentage during Lok Sabha elections 2009. Banks were asked to motivate voters coming to their branches through posters, banners etc. They have been asked to display posters, banners, stickers etc. at their ATMs also. Chief General Manager of lead bank Bank of India Shri D.K. Shrivastava informed that directives have been given to display posters, banners, stickers etc. at branch level. Banks have been asked to create voter awareness through financial literacy centres. Directives have also been given to make aware rural voters, specially women/youths at rural self-employment training centres. Voters will also be motivated at camps/functions held at bank branches. Banks have been directed to open accounts of candidates on priority and make cheque-books available to them at the earliest. Banks have also been asked to keep a keen eye on cash transactions above the prescribed limit during elections and inform about it immediately to concerning departments.
BSNL’s Senior General Manager Shri P. Ballal and AGM Shri Y.K. Poras directed district BSNL officer to keep telecommunications in readiness and use mobile and landline services to create voter awareness. He informed that BSNL will motivate its 34 lakh mobile and 7 lakh landline consumers through SMS, ring tones and caller tones. Besides, posters, banners, stickers etc. will also be displayed at BSNL’s customer care and other centres for voter awareness.
SVEEP’s State Nodal Officer Shri Sanjay Singh Baghel and Nodal Officer (Media Management) Shri Pralay Shrivastava asked Public Relations Officers to undertake wide publicity of SVEEP activities. Shri Baghel directed BSNL and banks to inform about SVEEP activities daily. He said that SVEEP partners’ assistance will also be sought to increase voting percentage. SVEEP’s Nodal Officers and other concerning officers were preset during about 4-hour video-conferencing.
