Shivraj promises 10 lakh jobs to woo GenY voters
BHOPAL: Exactly a month before assembly elections, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday went all out to woo young voters, promising to create 10 lakh jobs and set up skill development centres in every division of MP.
Both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress understand the importance of youth in this closely-fought election – over a third of the electorate is below 30 years of age and nearly 50% are below 40.
Chouhan rolled out his mega plans for GenY at a Yuva Town Hall event, organized by BJP’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and telecast live to party units across the state. The town hall was held to connect with and encourage young voters to cast their mandate in favour of “prosperity and development” of MP.
The CM walked a thin line by making promises when the model code of conduct is in force. If voted back to power for a fourth term, the CM said, the BJP government would provide 10 lakh jobs, set up a world class university, skill development centres statewide, and “develop Madhya Pradesh as a start-up hub to cater to the needs of the entire country”.

Calling upon youngsters to share new ideas to bring prosperity to the state, Chouhan said, “BJP is all set to develop Madhya Pradesh as a prosperous state in the coming five years and youth must support BJP’s agenda. We have set up a Rs 100 crore fund for start-up projects to develop the state as a startup hub. We will also open 500 incubation centres, food processing units in panchayats to fulfil demands. The youth must choose BJP to attain their goals,” said Chouhan.
More than 5,000 young participants from various fields were in the audience at the town hall address. The event was aired live in all 230 assembly constituencies to connect more than 10 lakh young voters with the BJP’s young team.
Chouhan said his aim was to motivate young voters ahead of elections, and connect with those who could bring fresh ideas for the prosperity and further development of the state. In his address, he recalled the contribution of Swami Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He attacked Congress for “playing spoilsport” during elections, saying: “The grand old party failed to develop the state during the decades it ruled MP, leaving core issues like unemployment, poverty, health and education unaddressed. BJP will utilise the vision of young voters to bring prosperity.”
“The development agenda of BJP helped the state gain the status of a developed region from a ‘bimaru’ state. We have focused every section, including youth, women, children, farmers and labourers to provide benefit of welfare programmes,” said Chouhan.
