India Lodges Protest against Pak Rocket Fire
India on Saturday lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over the firing of rockets which exploded two kilometers inside Punjab late on Friday night. The issue was raised at a flag meeting between the Border Security Force and Pakistani Rangers early this morning today.
The missiles landed in open fields in Modhey and Dhanova Khurd villages in Attari sector on the Indo-Pak border, touching off retaliatory gunfire from the Indian border troops.
There was no damage or casualty on the Indian side due to the Pakistani action. The BSF has already located four shells and is on the lookout for more.
New Delhi suspects that the border incidents were mainly aimed at diverting attention of the Indian forces to push in infiltrators. Meanwhile, BSF has sounded alert on Indo-Pak border and increased the patrolling along the border.
This was the second such provocative incident in the last two months. Earlier in July, last, Pakistan had breached border rules, when three rockets landed in different villages on the Indian side near Attari border.
This is the first time in the recent past that India retaliated and opened fire with machine guns and mortars.
