Nearly 40 passengers were injured when an American Airlines Boeing 737 went past the runway while landing at the international airport in Kingston, Jamaica, reported a local newspaper.

Jamaica Observer quoted Information Minister Daryl Vaz as saying that the injured passengers were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital. There are no reports of fatalities.

An FAA said, ‘the plane was American Airlines flight 331 from Miami.’

According to Fox News that quoted local reports, the flight originated in Washington DC; it crashed, and broke into two after landing.

The Jamaica Observer newspaper reported that the plane arrived in pouring rain at around 10 pm local time and overshot the runway.

CNN.com quoted Omar Lawrence, the airport’s operations coordinator, as saying that there were 145 passengers and seven crew members aboard.

One passenger, Natalie Hendricks, called her brother in law in Orlando and reported that there were no fatalities, the Miami Herald said on its website.
