Details regarding Tahawwur Hussain Rana, Pakistani born Canadian national who are in custody in Chicago for allegedly plotting terror strikes in Denmark and India, are emerging and show that he ran a flourishing immigration business.
Rana’s resident is in Chicago, while the Kanata home, which he co-owns, has been a gathering place for his far-flung family members and relatives spread across the US and a brother who is a famous journalist on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
More revelations have emerged in the Headley-Rana terror trail. close relative of Rana,Muhammed Akhtar is reported to have confirmed the link between David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, saying the two were close friends. He also admitted that Headley gave him money for safekeeping, and that he supplied Headley with currency as and when he asked for it.
Rana had advertised himself as a “world famous immigration consultant” before he became a diplomatic concern. That was last year when the Pakistani-Canadian businessman was just an “unknown” father of three, who worked out of Chicago while keeping a house in an Ottawa suburb.
Rana, 48, is at the centre of flurry of international media attention since the FBI arrested him last month for allegedly plotting terror attacks in India and Denmark.
Born and raised in Pakistan, Rana immigrated to Canada in 1997 and obtained Canadian citizenship in June 2001. He and his wife, Samraz Akhtar Rana, live in Chicago with their two daughters and a son.
Rana and his wife are two of five family members who co-own the house in Kanata, a suburb of Ottawa. But only his father, his brother Abbas and Abbas’s wife currently live there.
