Dream Job on Offer, Tatas Seek Ratan Successor

November 18, 2009 Visionmp.com news service

The dream job is on offer! The salt-to-steel Tata conglomerate is on a global headhunt to find a suitable successor to Ratan Tata, the 71-year-old chairman of the group said in an interview published in the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

“We are in the process of formalising a successor to me. We have some outside consultants and a formal search process is on. There are no constraints,” said Tata, who took over at the helm of the group replacing his father- the legendary JRD Tata – back in 1991.

While hoping that his successor would continue on the growth path set for the group, Tata did not limit the search to within the group, or the country, but said that it would “certainly be easier if that candidate were an Indian national.”

Notably, all but one of the group’s past chairmen have been Tatas, however, this time around no family member has, so far, been publicly identified to take charge group.
