Actors’ six pack abs are fake too: The magic of prosthetic body suits; Makeup artists get into trouble when the truth is revealed
Actors often use body suits to show six pack abs in the film. However, this thing is kept completely secret. Body suit makers are also clearly instructed not to leak this information. Actually, actors do not want their body to be called fake or artificial. This affects their image among the fans.
- How are body suits made?
- Why is there a need to make these?
- What are the problems in wearing them?
- Why do the actors want to keep it a secret?
We will talk about these points in the new episode of Reel to Real. For this, we discussed with three prosthetic artists Amod Doshi, Rahul Rajapaksa and Zubi Johal.
How are body suits made? First a 360 degree mold of the artist is made. Then after making the mold, silicone is poured on it. After pouring the silicone, it is dried. This whole process takes 15 to 20 days. After drying, it is worn by the actor. Its trial and look test is done only once. If there is any shortcoming, then all the work has to be done again.
Why is there a need to make a body suit? Today’s generation of actors prefer to make six pack abs naturally. For this, they give time to their body for a year or two. However, this is possible only when the actor is associated with only one project. Many times actors are associated with many projects at a time. They need a different body shape for every film. In such a situation, using a body suit becomes their compulsion.
What are the challenges of wearing a body suit?
- Wearing a prosthetic body suit prevents oxygen from passing out from inside the body. This causes panic or suffocation in the artist.
- A lot of sweating starts. The body starts losing water. Therefore, carrying a prosthetic body suit is a challenging task for the artist.
- There are also problems in going to the washroom. Applying prosthetic makeup on the body for 4 to 5 hours also causes rashes and stains on the body for some time. These stains can last for 24 hours.
- If an actor has to wear a prosthetic body suit for a month, he should pay a lot of attention to his weight. If the weight increases or decreases suddenly, then there can be a problem in wearing and taking off the body suit. This is because initially these body suits are prepared according to their body measurements.
I have made suits with six pack abs for many actors, but I cannot reveal their names – Amod Doshi According to Amod Doshi, no video is ever shot of actors wearing body suits. If that video gets leaked even by mistake, it creates a problem. Actors take action against it. Even the Artist Association becomes active in this matter.
Amod said, ‘I have made many actors wear body suits with six pack abs. However, I cannot name them. This is against our profession. If we reveal their names even by mistake, a case can be filed against us.’
Rahul Rajapaksa said that he uses skin friendly silicone to make body suits . He makes different fake body parts in his studio. Be it six pack abs, fake breasts and hips, hands, head or legs. They look absolutely original.
He said, ‘Just recently there was a rumour that Deepika Padukone flaunted a fake baby bump. Now I don’t know if this was true or false, but it is possible. We create such a baby bump for actresses in films that it does not look fake at all.’
The woman was impressed after seeing Richa Chadha’s fake baby bump and placed an order. Zubi Johal had made a fake baby bump for Richa Chadha for the film Gangs of Wasseypur. When she posted its photo on social media, she got a call from a woman.
Zubi says, ‘The woman told me that she wanted to do surrogacy, but she could not tell her parents. She requested me to make a fake baby bump. At first I found this strange but she insisted, so I made a fake baby bump and sent it to her. The woman even wore it and performed the baby shower ceremony, but no one came to know anything.’
