Ranbir Kapoor @42: He mopped the sets of ‘Black’, when he did ‘Barfi’, his family members said – are you committing suicide; he used to tell his mother that he will not do roles like Shahrukh

‘My brothers (Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor) used to tell me what has happened to him? He is committing suicide… he does a film and that too like ‘Rocket Singh’ and ‘Barfi’… in which he is mute and does not even listen… he will be finished… he will become an arty hero.

I was also worried after hearing all this but Ranbir proved us all wrong with his choice. ‘Barfi’ proved to be a hit.

Ranbir is a daring actor. When he was starting his career with ‘Saawariya’, he had told his mother that he did not want to do the kind of work that Shah Rukh Khan sahab and other actors had done.

I want to do films which talk about the problems of people of my age group.

That is why his choice of films is different. Like Wake Up Sid, Rocket Singh, Barfi and Tamasha. Some of those films will work and some will not… but I want to praise his brave choice.

These things about Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor were said by none other than his father and famous late Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor.

Today on Ranbir’s 42nd birthday, we will talk about his career graph and choice of characters.

After the completion of his 10th standard exams, Ranbir worked on a film for the first time at the age of 17. This film was ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’.

It was directed by Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor and Ranbir was the assistant director in it. After this Kapoor went to New York to do a course in filmmaking. While studying here, he made two short films.

In 2005, the actor returned to Mumbai and became the assistant director of Amitabh Bachchan-Rani Mukerji starrer film ‘ Black’. In an interview, the actor had said- ‘I used to work 21 hours on the set. I used to do everything from mopping the floor to fixing lights.

I used to get beaten up and abused but I used to learn something every day. My other aim was that Bhansali (director of the film Black) sir should offer me the lead role in one of his films.

Father had advised not to experiment, very few people know that father Rishi Kapoor had advised Ranbir at the beginning of his career not to experiment with characters, but Ranbir did many experimental roles right from the beginning of his career.

Because of this unique choice, Ranbir is today called the finest actor of the industry.

Debut film ‘Saawariya’ flopped In 2007, Ranbir made his acting debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Saawariya’ but the film did not do well. However, Ranbir got the Filmfare Award in the Best Male Debut category for this.

In 2010, Ranbir played the first grey character of his career in the film ‘Rajneeti’. In an interview, Ranbir called it the first complex role of his career. This also became Ranbir’s first film to earn more than 100 crores.

‘Rockstar’ and ‘Barfi’ brought him international stardom. ‘Rockstar’ released in 2011 gave Ranbir international stardom. For this, he learned to play proper guitar. For this, Ranbir got both Filmfare Best Actor and Best Actor Critics awards.

Ranbir made his own identity with ‘Barfi’ released in 2012. In this, he played the role of a deaf and dumb person. The film got official entry from India in Oscars. To play this role, the actor took inspiration from Charlie Chaplin and Dada Raj Kapoor.

2013 to 2017: Period of flop films Ranbir, who did many experiments in his career, had to go through a period of flop films for a few years. From 2013 to 2017, the actor worked in 6 films. Out of these, except ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, films like ‘Besharam’, ‘Roy’, ‘Bombay Velvet’, ‘Tamasha’ and Jagga Jasoos were flops.

‘Animal’ brought back stardom The actor’s last film was ‘Animal’ released last year. It earned 917 crores and became the third highest grossing film of the year after Shahrukh’s ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Pathan’.

After going through a phase of flop films, Ranbir has once again made a comeback in the list of top actors through this film.

In his 17-year career, Ranbir has done 21 films so far. Out of these, 11 films were hits. These days the actor is working on his first mythological film ‘Ramayana’.
