Fake Encounter: Ibobi Singh Orders Judicial Probe, Six Suspensions

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Wednesday ordered a judicial probe into the alleged fake encounter and ordered the immediate suspension of six policemen involved in the incident.

The chief ministerial orders came amid widespread protests over the killing of a youth by police commandos in an alleged fake encounter in Imphal on July 23.

Announcing the decision, Singh said that further action would depend on the oiycome o the judicial investigations.

He, however, did not specify a time frame for the completion of the probe.

Social outfits in Manipur have been protesting against the brutal killing of Chungkham Sanjit (27) in the allegedly fake encounter.

Initially, police claimed to have killed Sanjit in an exchange of fire, but pictures appearing in a Delhi based periodical showed police personnel dragging into a local drugstore before killing him.
