Guru Nanak Birth Anniversary Celebrated with Fervour

The 540th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev was celebrated with zest and religious and traditional fervor on Monday across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

In the celebration, a number of Sikh devotees thronged Gurdwaras, which were beautifully decorated on the occasion, to pay obeisance.

Besides, they took Langar (community kitchen) organised on the occasion and listened to Shabad Kirtans and took a dip in sarovars (tanks) of the shrines.

A large number of people reached Amritsar to visit the Golden Temple which was illuminated for the festival.

Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh guru was born at Nankana Sahab near Lahore in Pakistan in 1469.

A large number of Sikhs from Punjab and other places have gone to the neighbouring country to join the celebrations at Nankana Sahab.
