HC Seeks Details of Cases Pending against High and Mighty

January 4, 2010 Visionmp.com news service

With the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case resulting in a huge public outcry and serious aspersions over the working of the administrative and justice dispense process in the country, the Chandigarh High Court has asked Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to submit details of all criminal cases pending against “highly connected people”.

Justice Ranjit Singh has asked home secretaries of the twin states and the centrally governed union territory to submit before it details of all cases pending against police officers, politicians, bureaucrats and other highly connected people by January 12.

The order comes close on the heels of the December 21 conviction of Rathore in the Ruchika case of 1990 that underscores the nearly two decade long fight for justice put up by the victim’s family and friends.
