30 Killed in Car Bomb Explosion in Peshawar
At least 30 people were killed and dozens others wounded when a car bomb exploded in the northwest city of Peshawar, said police.
In the Friday morning, the explosion took place in the crowded area of Khyber Bazaar near provincial legislative assembly building. At the site of blast, a charred minibus alongside several other destroyed vehicles and scattered rubble can be seen.
At the time report came in, security forces were examining the debris by hand.
In addition to blast, militants on the outskirts of Peshawar, on Friday morning itself, destroyed supply vehicles on their way to international troops just over the border in Afghanistan.
According to police, militants first fired into the air and then attacked the supply convoy at a gas station outside of Peshawar. They poured gasoline on the vehicles and lit them on fire.
In the attack, four trucks and oil tanker were destroyed but no injury to anybody was reported. The vehicles carried fuel and other supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan.
The West relies on ground transport, typically through northwestern Pakistan, to bring supplies to their troops in land-locked Afghanistan.
Militants have often targeted these supply convoys for attacks, forcing the United States and other coalition partners to look for alternative routes.
