Ban Urges Isreal to Agree to International Probe on Gaza Strike
United Nations Secretary Genral Ban ki-Moon has urged Israel to agree to an international probe of its deadly commando strike on a Turkish ship which was bringing aid to Gaza, and do ‘much more’ to meet the needs of the Palestinians living there, said media reports.
Ban said that he was encouraged that Israel is undertaking review of its Gaza policy and lately decided to allow more goods into the Palestinian territory, reports said.
However, he told media persons that he hoped a greater easing of the Israeli blocade in Gaza, said reports.
Ban said that Israel’s investigation of the May 31 flotilla raid is important but wouldn’t have ‘international credibility’, which is why he is continuing to urge the Israeli government to agree to an international panel with Israeli and Turkish participation, reports said.
