Blast at PM’s rally in Japan, narrow escape: Attacker threw smoke bomb before speech, stampede; suspect arrested
Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had a narrow escape on Saturday morning. Smoke bombs were blasted at his rally. There was chaos on hearing the sound of the blast. The security forces immediately took out the PM safely. While there, the suspected attacker was caught.
According to the Japan Times report, PM Kishida had arrived in Wakayama city to address a rally. He was due to give a speech in support of his party’s Liberal Democratic Party candidate for the by-election to be held later this month. The blast happened even before his speech.
Security forces immediately caught the attacker, currently not identified.
Some photo-videos of the incident are going viral on social media. People can be seen running in these. At the same time, it can be seen in a photo that the security personnel present during the rally are holding the suspected attacker. He tries to run away, but the security personnel pin him down on the ground and hold him.
At present, the police have not given any information related to the attacker. A police officer said – The attacker could not be identified. We have arrested him. He is under interrogation. Only after this it will be known who he is and why he attacked.
During the attack, a woman present in the rally said – PM Kishida was talking to the people. He had just reached that suddenly there was a blast. We all panicked. My heart beat fast. I didn’t understand what happened all of a sudden. Some people were saying that the bomb was thrown. Just then everyone started running here and there.
