Cause of Libyan Plane Crash Being Investigated
Aviation authorities have started probe into the Afriqiyah Airways plane crash at Tripoli airport in which 105 people were killed, reported BBC.
According to report, investigators have recovered flight recorders and handed them to analysts to find clues on what brought down the Afriqiyah Airways flight on Wednesday.
Police and rescue workers in surgical masks and gloves are combing wreckage of the Airbus A330 near the runway, report said.
Dutch officials said that as many as 61 of their nationals lost their life in the crash, said report.
However, a child, the only survivor of the crash is reported to be Dutch and being given treatment in hospital, report said.
The 93 passengers on board included nationals from Libya, South Africa, Germany, Britain and France.
The plane, which had 11 crew members, crashed as it arrived from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Eyewitnesses said that the aircraft started to break up as it came in to land in clear weather, said report.
“It exploded on landing and totally disintegrated,” one security official was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
The plane’s tailfin bearing the airline’s colourful insignia was the only sizeable piece of wreckage to be seen.
The cause of the crash is not known. The Libyan Transport Minister Mohammed Ali Zidan has ruled out terrorism.
