Imran’s PTI launches anti-govt movement
Islamabad. Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday launched an anti-government movement across the country. The Peshawar rally was led by PTI chief Imran Khan, who also invited the Pakistanis to join the movement. Mr Khan said that every Pakistani wants to eliminate corruption from the country and that major departments have been destroyed due to continuous corruption.
“The rally will continue until the PM takes accountability in Panama leaks,” he said.
Mr Khan said the protest would be end in Raiwind. He said under this Tehrik, national institutions, including National Accountability Bureau, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the judiciary would be urged to bring the powerful under rule of law.
Meanwhile, a former top official said on Sunday that the Election Commission of Pakistan can disqualify both Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI chief Imran Khan for alleged corruption. Though the scale of corruption allegations is incomparable, Mr Sharif and Mr Khan face similar charges of concealing wealth and on the basis of evidence against them, the ECP can disqualify both for any public office, says a former senior official of the election body.
Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has filed a reference seeking disqualification of the PTI chairman (as a member of Lower House) with Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
