The All India Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup Hockey Tournament Committee convened on Thursday to ensure the smooth conduct of the prestigious tournament.
The committee members assessed the state of preparations and discussed key improvements required at the historic Aishbagh Stadium in the state capital.
A crucial meeting was held with the director of sports, Madhya Pradesh government, focusing on logistical and infrastructural needs. Later, the committee inspected the stadium grounds to evaluate the existing facilities and propose necessary enhancements for an optimal playing environment.
The committee comprises distinguished figures from Indian hockey. Abdul Ghafoor Khan, an international player and former Air India station manager in Bhopal, brings his experience to the panel. Mehboob Khan, an Asian Games silver medallist, adds his expertise. Samir Dad, chief coach of the Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and an Olympian from the Sydney Games, plays a key role. Anjum Rehman, a retired State Bank of India manager and national player, contributes valuable insights. Aslam Sher Khan, a former Union minister and a member of India’s 1975 World Cup-winning squad, lends his vast experience to the planning process.
The Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup is one of India’s most historic hockey tournaments, attracting top teams from across the country. The committee’s efforts aim to uphold its legacy while ensuring the best possible conditions for players and spectators alike.
