Power Back in Philippines after Typhoon; Floods Wreak Havoc in China, Japan
Power supply has been restored in the Philippine capital, flights restarted and schools reopened today after nearly 26 people were killed by the first typhoon of the season and the main northern island plunged into darkness, said media reports.
According reports, as many as 38 people remained missing, most of them fishermen caught by Typhoon Conson’s fury at sea.
The power was restored to Manila and close-by province after Conson, having an intensity of 75 miles per hour, hit the island late Tuesday and early Wednesday, uprooting power lines, downing tress and ripping off roofs and tarpaulin billboards, reports said.
Besides, electricity supply, flight operations have resumed at the Manila international airport and schools reopened, said reports.
It should also be mentioned that heavy rains, unrelated to the typhoon, have wreaked havoc in China and Japan as well.
The death toll from rain-triggered landslides rose to 41 in western China, and workers raced to drain overflowing reservoirs in the southeast, reports said.
Flooding has killed more than 100 people in China so far this month, reported the official Xinhua News Agency.
Storm in southern and western Japan left two dead and three missing, said reports.
