Protesters Hurl Plastic Bags Filled with Blood at Thai PM’s Compound
In a symbolic protest, several dozen demonstrators threw plastic bags full of gallons of blood at Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajjiva’s house in Bangkok, reported BBC.
Security forces agreed to allow the red-shirted demonstrators through the police cordon carrying plastic bottles filled with blood, which was poured into small plastic bags and then thrown at prime minister’s compound, report said.
Government cleaners swiftly swung into action to wipe up the blood.
Neither Abhisit nor his family was at their home in the upmarket Bangkok suburb at the time, said report.
He has been staying at the headquarters of the 11th Infantry Battalion in the north of Bangkok since the protests began.
Critics said that protesters wasted a resource which could have been used to help the sick, said report.
According to report, police and troop reinforcements were drafted in at the last minute to the prime minister’s house, sparking fears of a confrontation.
Protestors, many of whom support ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatrin and regard Abhisit’s government as illegitimate, want government to be dissolved and fresh elections conducted.
Red-shirt leaders and government figures have insisted that they are determined to keep the protests, the largest in recent years, peaceful.
However, government had said that it would ban the protest but negotiated solution once again, said report.
Later, several thousand protestors assembled outside the American embassy, accusing US intelligence of bugging deposed ex-PM Thaksin, report said.
Some said they were there to tell the international community that their government was illegitimate, said report.
But others said that the US had accused Thaksin of inciting violence after snooping on the billionaire former leader’s phone calls.
