Taliban Told Shahzad to Pay Cash, Not to Leave Paper Trail: Report
The Pakistani Taliban had instructed Faisal Shahzad, a Pakistani-American arrested for the Times Square bombing plot, to always pay cash and not to leave a ‘paper trail’ in transactions, said a media report.
“He was told to be very careful about not letting anything track back to him. No receipts, and no paper. No nothing,” an official source close to the probe was quoted as saying by the Los Angeles Times.
Shahzad was instructed to always pay cash and never ask for or receive receipts for his transactions, report said.
“He was told to leave no paper trail at all,” the report said.
According to the daily, he paid in cash both for his gun and the van he bought from a Connecticut-based teenager, said report.
The investigators are trying to find out how much money Taliban provided to front the operation, who put up the funds and how it was paid to Shahzad, report said.
Besides, other report appeared in the same daily said that Shahzad, a neutralized US citizen, would have been disturbed by increasing US drone attacks in Pakistan’s tribal belt.
Agents interviewing the 30-year-old have learned that he was upset over repeated CIA drone attacks on militants in his the country of his birth.
