Turf War Erupting in Pakistan Taliban: Media Reports
Hinting at a turf war, Pakistani media on Saturday suggested that Hakimullah Mehsud, a top Taliban commander, was killed at a Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) meeting to name a successor to slain leader Baitullah Mehsud.
“The infighting was between Wali-ur-Rehman and Hakimullah Mehsud,” said Pak Interior Minister Rehman Malik while speaking to Reuters News Agency.
“We have information that one of them has been killed. Who was killed we will be able to say later after confirming.”
The meeting was reportedly held in Waziristan, a Talibani stronghold in the northwest tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
