After outreach at Fintech Fest, PM Modi meets US VP Mike Pence
Singapore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday arrived in Singapore for a two-day visit, during which he will participate in a number of engagements. The Prime Minister will be attending the East Asia Summit, an ASEAN-India informal meet, as well as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership summit. In one of his first engagements, PM Modi delivered the keynote address at the Singapore Fintech Summit.
During his address, the PM wooed global investors, assuring them that India was the best destination for tech, whiel also highlighting the technological progress achieved by India. The Prime Miniter also held a bilateral meeting with US Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday.
Ahead of his departure for Singapore, PM Modi had said in Delhi that his participation in the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits signified India’s “continued commitment” to “strengthen its engagement with ASEAN members and with the wider Indo-Pacific region,” PTI quoted him as saying. He also expressed confidence that his trip to Singapore would impart “fresh momentum” to New Delhi’s growing partnership with ASEAN and East Asia Summit nations.

11:45 am: “The discussions between PM Modi and US Vice-President touched both upon bilateral relations and regional and international issues. Vice President Pence acknowledged that India had made progress economically. He felt India is a positive factor in regional & intl relations,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement in Singapore. The MEA further said, “PM Modi stressed that there was a great opportunity for USA in India in making defence equipment and setting up defence industry in India. The issue of terrorism was discussed and US VP Pence appreciated cooperation between US and India on counter-terrorism.” PM Modi and US Vice President Mike Pence held bilateral talks in Singapore today.

Speaking to Pence before reporters, PM Modi said, ” I am glad that US celebrated Diwali.” On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump participated in Diwali celebrations at the White House and lit a ceremonial diya.
8:40 am: After delivering the keynote address at the Singapore Fintech Summit, PM Narendra Modi launched APIX, which is an online global fintech marketplace, at the event. ” Tech has unleashed hope in India. Banking has been made accessible to all,” PM Modi said during his speech.
8:23 am: Earlier on Wednesday, PM Narendra Modi was given a warm welcome by members of the Indian community upon his arrival at the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. PM Modi is scheduled to attend a number of events during his two-day trip.

8:10 am: PM Modi told the Singapore Fintech Summit that digital transactions were booming in India and were helping the MSME sector grow. He said, “Rapidly rising digital transactions in India powered by Rupay & BHIM. Today, 128 banks in India are connected to UPI. Transactions on UPI grew 1500 times in the last 24 months. Every month, the value of transaction is growing by over 30%.”
8:04 am: While speaking at the summit, PM Modi said, “My govt came to office in 2014 with a mission of inclusive development that would change the lives of every citizen,even the weakest in the remotest village.That mission needed a solid foundation of financial inclusion for all-a task that wasn’t easy in a country of India’s size.” In his keynote address, the PM also highlighted the success of social schemes in India.
