Power distribution company seeks withholding of employee salaries for default on electricity bills

In news that’s sure to send shockwaves down the spines of the errant, Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company has written to 16 district collectors asking them to withhold the salaries of the defaulters.

Over 5,000 officials and employees in the state have more than Rs 10,000 in outstanding electricity bills. If the overdue amounts are not paid within seven days, the power distribution company plans to press for the withholding of their salaries.

A list of government officials and employees who have not paid their electricity bills has now been released, showing that over 500 individuals have more than Rs 10,000 in outstanding bills.

In light of the rising bills, the power distribution company has intensified its campaign to recover overdue payments from officials and employees in government departments.

The employees are to clear their dues within seven days; failing which, their names will be forwarded to their department heads and the treasury, and their salaries for the next month will be withheld.
