10 Drowns, 40 Missing as Boat Capsizes in Godavari

Nearly 10 people have drowned and 40 others are missing after a boat carrying them turned turtle in Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh, said media reports.

Superintendent of Police B Balakrishna  said that the country-made boat was ferrying around 40-50 persons and capsized in river at about 0630 hrs near Bihyyaputeppa village in West Godavari district, said reports.

He informed that 10 bodies have been recovered as yet and that family members of the victims, who hail from close-by villagers, have reached at the accident site, located nearly 30 km from Biyyaputeppa.

Rescue operations have been launched to trace the missing persons, the SP was quoted as saying.
