1993 Surat Bombing Suspect Held in UK, Faces Extradition

The Scotland Yard is reported to have arrested Hanif Umerji Patel alias Tiger Hanif – a suspect in the 1993 Surat terror bombing – on behalf of Indian authorities from a house in Halliwell.

Culminating a 17 year chase, the Yard traced Tiger (49) to a grocery store and arrested him on February 16, media reports cited a metropolitan police spokesman as saying on Wednesday.

Remanded in custody, Tiger will appear at City of Westminister Magistrate Court on March 25 which will hear the government of India application for his extradition.

Hanif is wanted in connection with a terror bombing in Surat, which killed an eight-year-old schoolgirl and wounded 12 others.
